We used a suite of demanding AI, media-oriented, and general performance benchmarks to assess and compare the performance of two high-end mobile workstations: a Dell Precision 5690—equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor 185H, an NVIDIA RTX 3500 Ada GPU, and a dedicated neural processing unit—and an Apple MacBook Pro 16” with an Apple M3 Max processor and a 40-core GPU. We also researched each device’s management and security features and used hands-on tests to investigate the relative ease of replacing key parts.
In each of the areas we evaluated, we discovered strengths and advantages for the Dell Precision 5690. The Precision 5690 significantly outperformed the MacBook Pro in each of the AI, creativity, and general performance workloads we tested. Our research found that the Precision is easier for administrators to manage and secure, and our hands-on tests showed that it takes fewer steps and less time to repair. Our results indicate that the Dell Precision 5690 mobile workstation is an excellent option for businesses that want to equip their team to create and innovate in an AI-empowered future.
